LONG ISLAND ACTIVISTS STATEMENT RE: KEITH ELLISON FOR DNC CHAIR.THE DEFINITIVE STRUGGLE OF THE NEXT TWO MONTHS: RECLAIM THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY!

“It is always darkest before the dawn.” Or, if you prefer: “In crisis, opportunity.”

In the wake of the Democratic National Committee’s public failure in the 2016 elections, a unique opportunity has emerged. For the first time in several decades, there is an opportunity to make the Democratic Party into what it should be: a major Party run by and for all the working people of all the United States.

Central to this struggle for the fate of the Democratic Party is the February 2017 election for Chair of the Democratic National Committee. Long Island Activists (formerly: Long Island for Bernie Sanders 2016) needs your help in this definitive historical moment. We need you to help secure the DNC Chairmanship for US Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN). Keith Ellison supports the Democratic Party full-on embrace of the Sanders small-donor, activist-fueled model that eschews billionaire-fueled Super PACs altogether, and focuses on organizing.

Long Island Activists endorsed Rep. Keith Ellison for DNC Chair on November 14. Rep. Ellison has since assembled an impressive array of endorsements, including the AFL-CIO, Communications Workers of America, National Nurses United, American Federation of Teachers, US Sen. Chuck Schumer, US Sen. Elizabeth Warren, NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio, retiring US Sen. Harry Reid, US Rep CK Butterfield, and US Rep John Lewis; even former Clintonites such as Randi Weingarten and Chuck Schumer have been won over to the idea on pragmatic grounds. You can view an up-to-date version of Keith’s endorsements here.

We seek to democratize the Democratic Party, and believe Keith Ellison is our best shot. We at Long Island Activists have struggled to get basic information on when Democratic Committee meetings across Long Island are being held. At times it is difficult to get any response at all, be it by telephone or meeting. We at Long Island Activists believe Keith Ellison will not allow this status quo to persist, that he is committed to this vision, and he receives our full endorsement.
